I took the driveless challenge starting Wednesday April 22 by driving to work because I was not fully ready to start the challenge outside my normal routine. But on Thursday April 23 I broke the routine and walked to work. Even though only a mile or so walk it was very different. Always in a hurry, I found myself slowing down a little and paying attention to my surroundings. The morning was crisp and I found the walk invigorating. On Friday April 24 I decided to ride my bike. Ok, I hurried a little by riding my bike but I did avoid the car. Riding a bike is a little more work than driving a car. You have to take the bike out of storage and of course fill the tires with air, not something you think about when driving a car (you can just call AAA if your tire is low). Once the tires were filled off I went and I really enjoyed the short ride. Oh yeah typically i don’t have to put a helmet on when i drive a car or worry about my pants getting caught in the chain. Live and learn (brings back old youth memories of ruining pants in the chain).
I am thinking now about how to commute Monday. Walk or ride the bike? Walking takes less planning and my pants will be better off but a bike will get me there faster (have to hurry you know). I will decide in the morning, can I wear shorts to work? Overall I am really enjoying this new adventure and challenge. Ok i will end for now but look forward to the week.
