Farmers market by bike

In the Bay Area we’re fortunate to have wonderful farmers markets that sell fresh, tasty produce all year long. It’s easy to fit a bike with baskets and stock up on strawberries, asparagus and artichokes, nuts, cheese, eggs from happy chickens. The taste of the locally-grown food is amazing, and in-season produce grown with care for sustainable practices, much better for then environment than factory farms.

In the four sponsoring cities, there are farmers markets in Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Mountain View and Burlingame (the Burlingame market is seasonal, May-December. Many of the farmers markets are near the train, for fun weekend exploring. They’re all a little different. For example, the California Ave farmers market has several providers of bread, cheese, and prepared food (try the Oaxacan food stand and the crepes).

Have you gone to the Farmers Market this weekend or this season? Post your story! Photos welcome, recipes optional.
