Now a SF-to-PA Bike Addict!

I’ve been commute-cycling regularly since 2003 – 6 yrs in Berkeley, and now 1 yr in San Francisco. My bike-Caltrain commute to Palo Alto where I work is about 10 mi/day, plus more for errands. But, my biking has always been casual and for short distances…until now!

True story, the Drive Less Challenge was the catalyst in helping me sign up for the AIDS/LifeCycle 545 mile bike ride from SF to Los Angeles, coming up June 6-12! I’ve started doing longer rides now, did a century last weekend and loved it! I biked from SF to PA on bike-to-work day with Google’s SF2G group, and that gave me the courage to do it on my own last week – it’s about 35 miles and gorgeous!

My lesson learned recently has been that the Bay is much smaller than we tend to think when driving it; biking shrinks distances, gives one a sense of place as well as regional context, and of course does all those other wonderful things for health, mood, fitness, general awesomness, etc.

Go biking!
