Hi there…I am with Green Mountain View DLC and GMV Schools and was just testing this out to see what people who register might see since I’d like to start publicizing this at the schools.
You may be aware already but once you put in your pregistration info in the tool, it just spins and goes nowhere.
I also wanted to see how you can get credit for the organization through which you are participating….was hoping, by now, this would be available. Was it just my experience or is this universal still?
Thanks
Sharon

I still don’t know how this works. You say I can be part of a group, but in your sign up there is no group entry.
Do I keep track of “regular” miles one week before, and then compare this to the nest week or just take alternates as much as possible and only count these miles?
More info would be helpful for us not in the “know”, ie newbees.
Thanks,
David

Thanks for the great work and setting the challenge up again. I can particpate in the preview and testing to help at least a little bit in the effort.

Ask Rainer about the totally cool new bike carts that he’s located that can attach instantly to your bike and carry groceries, backpacks, golf clubs or whatever you might need to cart around with you. Now taking your bike is possible even when there are big things to carry! As a mom, that’s been one of my biggest constraints to riding with my kids!

Important to add to “But if you must drive a gas-powered car”:
* Link your trips so that you avoid cold starts and reduce emissions
* Plan ahead and carpool with at least one other person whenever possible.
* Find someone to carpool to work with via http://rideshare.511.org/

Interesting perspective. I bike quite a bit and I find that when I do drive, I need to consciously avoid the things that are perfectly safe and often required on a bike but not in a car. For example, making a left on a red arrow where the traffic light sensor won’t detect my bike and where I can see there are no oncoming cars is fine on a bike; but I do try to obey all traffic lights in a car!
In other words, biking makes me a worse driver

Benoit–What cute girls. My two girls are way too old for this, but maybe in the future I can do this with grandkids, if they produce!

Answer: For this running of the challenge, it’s too late to add features.
But if you don’t drive, that certainly shows up in the amount of miles you travelled, and if you filled out a your baseline, then you can see the change as improvement compared to your goal.
Avoiding a trip is certainly a great way to reduce carbon emissions – would you like to share a story about how you use telecommuting to avoid driving? You can post on the website at http://drivelesschallenge.com – click Share Your STory.

Wish I could join you at Kepler’s this evening, but will be hosting some visitors from out-of-town.
I decided to “compensate” by biking down from Palo Alto to Los Altos for a shopping run, and managed to haul back about 5 bags of groceries (including 2 six-packs, a bottle of wine, and a bottle of fine reposado) on the KidzTandem bike!
I got home and while it sure felt strange to not have to log the trip in to the Drive Less Challenger website, it feels good nonetheless!
Thanks for the impetus, and enjoy the festivities this evening!

Question from Heyward Robinson:
A friend at work asked about getting credit for telecommuting (and in general trips not taken). Can we add this category next year?
